Onsen Spa

There is nothing to indicate that this attic is located in a historic Gründerzeit villa. The client, who lived in Japan for a while, wanted a spacious spa area for her house that would remind her of the Japanese bathing culture. Holzrausch staged an onsen for her, which has the presence of a meditative resting place thanks to its continuous design with wooden slats made of natural hemlock. The deliberate use of indirect light enhances this effect. The center of the onsen is an Ofuro basin, which was made by specialists in Japan. The basin fills with water up to 42°C within 25 minutes. Especially for this purpose, another freshwater pipeline had to be laid.
